Winter is Coming 10/26/2016 Things are moving along on the homestead site! It's a good thing, too, because winter is right around the corner. We've already had one night with below freezing temperatures but no frost yet. Based on sunlight patterns, the original site for the main cabin is now going to be the garden plot. The cabin is located farther back on the property. It's being built basically one room at a time, because it was originally intended as a guest cabin. I'll finish up the section that's started already

Laundry Day 09/12/2016 There have been some slight lifestyle changes since I moved off grid. One of the biggest changes is how I clean my clothes. Yes, I use an old-fashioned wash board like my grandmother, but I also built a "washing machine" out of buckets and a toilet plunger. You can see pictures of this contraption in the gallery. This is definitely low impact laundering, though! I can wash an entire week's worth of clothes with less than 5 gallons of water. It takes a little more planning, not to mention

Setting Up Camp 09/07/2016 Our first few days here were all about getting some temporary infrastructure established. Three tents so far...one for J@ck and me, one for food and kitchen supplies, and one for tools. The trailer is storing even more tools, so we need to get a toolshed up before I need the trailer for something else. Pictures of our first week's set up can be found in the Gallery.
